What I’m enjoying…

Y’all honestly, I don’t think I’ve finished a book since my last spotlight blog came out. I have been so busy and exhausted that I haven’t been reading much. Plus, my main time to read is when I’m feeding my youngest before naps and bedtime, but he is now weaned and downing his milk like nobody’s business, so I’m lucky to get a chapter in a day. I listened to a bit more of A Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson, and I’m chugging through Heartless Hunter by Kristen Ciccarelli for my book club. I also just watched Dune part 2 with my husband yesterday, and yes, that’s relevant because all three of those things have made me realize something about myself: I don’t think sci-fi/fantasy is the genre for me. At least at the adult level, because I love me some Harry Potter.

I’ve come to realize that if I have to be told the rules of the universe, and learn a million different names and locations and religions and whatnot, I will get overwhelmed and uninterested. My brain literally doesn’t want to take in the information, so by the end of the book, I couldn’t even tell you much of what was going on. And it’s especially hard when the books are ridiculously long (I’m talking to you, Sanderson!).

Part of me feels bad because I’m a bookworm and an English major, and I feel like this is literally what ALL of BookTok (and my own book club) reads, so maybe I’m missing something. But I also feel like it’s important to know what you like. If someone says they don’t like reading, I firmly believe it’s because they haven’t found the right book. And I don’t think these are my right books. That’s not to say I will never read them. Obviously, I will keep up with my book club (and by keep up, I mean chug along at a turtle pace until they set the next meeting date, haha!), and I do think it’s important to read outside your comfort zone on occasion. But oh my gosh, I want reading to be fun and easy, and these past few books have not been that for me.

So what have I been enjoying lately? Rewatching Queer Eye for like an hour before bed each night, lol!
